From the LA Times‘ coverage of Donald Trump’s f-bomb laden speech to a GOP women’s group in one of his Las Vegas casinos:
Regarding the birth certificate, which had been a major talking point of Trump’s in recent months, the boisterous billionaire was still taking credit a day after President Obama released his long-form Hawaiian document.
“Hillary Clinton tried to get him to do it, Bill Clinton tried to get him to do it, John McCain, who’s a wonderful guy, tried to get him to do it, nobody could get him to do it and he did it because we went after him hard, were tough negotiators like this country needs,” Trump said.
How soon Mr Trump forgets — if he ever knew.
McCain, of course, wasn’t inclined to make a big deal of the birf cerfiticket thing for one interesting reason: he was born in Panama.
But, long ago — in a period before the rich, young Trump had even had a chance to bankrupt himself once and was still assiduously avoiding the Vietnam era draft — current GOP quasi-candidate Mitt Romney’s popular businessman-turned-politician dad, George Romney, ran for the GOP nom with little controversy over the fact that he was born in Mexico.
But that was then. This is now.
Welcome to modern times.
