Handing a big one to the Dems…

It got oddly little press but proponents of health care reform are clearly not going to let it die…

A conservative Republican physician from Maryland who is among freshmen Republicans in the House of Representatives — and who was prominent among those who had fiercely railed against the evils of government involvement in health care — set off ripples of amusement inside Washington when, during his freshman orientation to Congress, could not believe he would be expected to go for a whole two months without government-subsidized health care before his public-paid-for bennies kicked in.

Dr. Andy Harris’ plaintive whining apparently tickled even some Republicans. According to CBS News:

“He stood up and asked the two ladies who were answering questions why it had to take so long, what he would do without 28 days of health care,” a congressional staffer told Politico.

Of course, Dr. Harris has joined with other Congressional Republicans to plot a strategy for taking away health benefits from many of the United States’ middle and working class families who can no longer afford health insurance — and can even less afford trips to the doctor or hospital.

Congressional Democrats, belatedly seizing on a bit of competitive political theater (only a few weeks too late for the just-passed midterm elections) are urging Republican foes of health care reform to put their money where their mouths are and turn down the $10,000+ government health care subsidies  a previous Congress — Republicans on board — voted themselves. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20023107-503544.html

Now, a public advocacy group is carrying the message to the people, hoping the blatant hypocrisy shown by  Republicans will be as obvious to the public as it is to Washington insiders.

At the forefront of the new effort is a website with the banner head: America Got Scammed. http://www.americansunitedforchange.org/page/s/AmericaGotScammedHealthCare
